NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY – ADA

As a physician’s office, we are required to comply with basic non-discriminatory requirements, as set forth
by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These requirements prohibit exclusion, segregation, and
unequal treatment of any person with a disability.

Our facility must have in place handicapped accessibility, including an accessible exam table, allowing for
adequate space and supplies. All staff members need to be well-versed in operating accessible
equipment, helping with positioning and moving patients, and not discriminating against individuals with
disabilities.

To ensure effective communication for deaf or hard-of-hearing patients, we may need to incorporate
written notes, telecommunication devices, or an interpreter, among other aids. For visually impaired
patients, we may need to provide readers, or share correspondence in large print or Braille text, among
other aids.

The ADA also requires that service dogs be admitted to healthcare provider offices unless it would
jeopardize alterations or safety operations.
In total, we are required to modify policies and procedures whenever needed to serve a person with a
disability, without fundamentally altering the nature of the service that we provide. We are responsible for
making reasonable efforts to accommodate patients with sensory impairments, so that we better
understand the patient’s symptoms and to help prevent misdiagnosis of medical problems or prescribe
inappropriate treatment.
