Our entire team at Davies Fertility and IVF Specialists are proud to help gay couples achieve their dream of parenthood. Gay men wanting to build a biological family will need to utilize an egg donor, gestational surrogate, and in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Treatment Options For Male Same-Sex Couples
At an initial consultation with Dr. Davies, each partner will be asked questions about their background, health, past medical and surgical histories, family histories and other related information. A semen analysis will be scheduled. Further evaluation will be recommended to determine the best course of action for the couple
In-Vitro Fertilization- Donor eggs are fertilized in the lab with the partner’s or chosen donor’s sperm. Once the fertilized egg(s) has developed in the lab for 5 days, the embryo(s) is transferred into the female carrier’s uterine cavity to implant into the uterine lining for fetal development. If PGT-A is utilized to evaluate the embryos to determine normal chromosome content, the embryos will be biopsied and vitrified (frozen) to transfer into the gestational carrier’s uterus at a later date once the chromosomal status of the embryos is known. Typically a single euploid embryo is transferred and all remaining normal embryos can remain vitrified for future use.
Partners will need to consider some important questions related to their situation such as:
- Will a partner or a donor supply the sperm? If a partner, which one? We work with area sperm banks and can help you find a good fit if needed.
- Will your gestational carrier be known or will you go through an agency? We have relationships with reputable surrogacy agencies we can recommend.
- Will the eggs be from a known donor or a donor from an agency? We can help connect you with reputable donor egg agencies if necessary.
- Should you consider preimplantation genetic testing?
- Will insurance cover any of the costs of the treatments?
